Pass Plus Course


Pass Plus is an established training course aimed at new drivers and designed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry.  


Pass Plus is not a driving test but a six hour course (minimum) that will build on your current skills and knowledge whilst teaching you how to anticipate, plan for and deal with all kinds of hazard whilst helping you to become a more confident driver.


Most insurance companies offer up to 25% off your car insurance once you've completed Pass Plus.


Pass Plus consists of six modules about driving in different conditions, each focusing on and providing training in the different scenarios that drivers will face.  With a Pass Plus Course from JDS Driving School, you will cover the following:


Module 1 - Driving around a town

  • observation
  • judgement and awarenes
  • eye contact
  • consideration for vulnerable road users
  • showing caution
  • keeping space around your car


Module 2 - All weather driving

  • correct speed
  • safe stopping distances
  • seeing and being seen in: rain, sleet, snow and ice, mist and fog, bright sunshine

  • how to prevent skids
  • correcting slow-speed skids
  • braking on poor surfaces
  • aquaplaning


Module 3 - Driving in the countryside

  • observing the road ahead
  • making progress safely
  • bends, hills, uneven roads and dead ground
  • keeping a safe distance
  • safe overtaking
  • being aware
  • showing consideration for pedestrians, horse riders and animals
  • farm entrances
  • slow moving vehicles
  • correct use of a horn
  • coping with mud and debris on the road
  • how to use passing places


Module 4 - Driving at night

  • using headlights correctly
  • adjusting to the dark
  • judging speed and distance
  • correct use of lights and keeping them clean
  • dealing with dazzle
  • hard-to-see road users

Module 5 - Driving on dual carriageways

  • using your mirrors

Module 6 - Driving on motorways
